I can't believe my boyfriend dumped me because I don't want children

DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend just ditched me because I don’t want children, even though I told him this at the start of our relationship.

On our fifth date, I distinctly remember talking about how I didn’t want to have children. At the time, he seemed fine with it.

He’s 29 and I’m 28.

But on the drive home after visiting my nieces last week, he said: “I can’t wait until we start having kids of our own.”

I was shocked – I thought he felt the same way I did.

My sister couldn’t wait to be a mum and always had a Baby Annabell doll under her arm as a child. But I want to travel.

I’ve always wanted to live and work in different countries. That’s not so easy when you’ve got three kids in tow.

When we discussed it again a few days later, he admitted he thought I’d change my mind. When I said I wouldn’t, he dumped me.

I’m heartbroken. I genuinely thought we’d be together for the rest of our lives.
