I’m 20. I started to self-harm in my late teens but I’m much better now and I’ve joined a local netball team.
I could wear a long-sleeved sweatshirt over my wrists during training but I’ve got my first game in two weeks.
That would mean wearing a short-sleeved shirt, but I don’t want to reveal my scars. I don’t want the reminders on my skin and I don’t want others to see them either. I’m thinking of dropping out.
DEIDRE SAYS: Please do not think of giving up the sport you love.
Tell the team captain about your worries. Ask for her understanding and to tell your teammates. You can ask that they don’t make a fuss about your scars.
They will be much more focussed on the match.
My e-leaflet on Cosmetic Camouflage can help, too.
