Kate’s awkward demand to friends about what to call her before she joined royals

Kate Middleton sent out a demanding message to her friends shortly before she became a royal – revealing how she wanted to be addressed, according to reports.

The Duchess of Cambridge is said to have told pals she wanted to be referred to as Catherine.

Back in 2008, it was reported Kate was keen to rebrand herself as rumours flew around that she was about to get engaged.

However, it took until October 2010 for William to pop the question, nine years after they met.

To this day he still refers to his wife as Catherine in public.

Sunday Express columnist Adam Helliker wrote at the time in what the paper describes as "unearthed documents": “I hear that in the past few weeks the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends that she would like to drop the informal ‘Kate’ and in future wishes to be known by her full name: Catherine.”

And a pal told the paper: “Everyone knows it’s about to happen with Kate and William, but we were a little surprised about the request to call her Catherine.

“There is a distinct feeling she has started to become very aware of her position.”
