McDonald's 'to reopen in mid-May for drive-thru and delivery' according to reports

MCDONALD'S is to reopen for delivery and drive-thru orders in mid-May, according to reports.

Maccies fans were left gutted when all 1,350 restaurants were temporarily shut on March 23 due to coronavirus.

But now the fast food chain is working on plans to reopen according to the Irish Farmers Journal.

Before closing all branches, McDonald's was still taking takeaway and drive-thru orders.

To help keep staff and customers safe, the restaurant chain had shut off seating and children's play areas.

It had also started using sticky tape to mark out boxes on floors to indicate safe distances.

News that the chain could be set to reopen comes as:

  • Costa opened four branches, leading to lengthy queues outside the Mansfield drive-thru
  • Matt Hancock said businesses such as B&Q which have re-opened after shutting down over the crisis were "never required to close"
  • Coronavirus home tests for key workers ran out within minutes
  • Government scientists working on the coronavirus lockdown have found no safe way for hair salons to reopen
  • Britain grew ever closer to 20,000 coronavirus deaths – a figure previously given by the government as a benchmark we would be "doing well" to stay under

McDonald's addicts queued for up to three hours when a handful of restaurants reopened for drive-through meals in France earlier this week.

Huge tail backs and large traffic jams formed near newly reopened outlets.

A spokesperson from McDonald's confirmed it is working on plans to reopen but that a date had not yet been agreed.

Thirty of the 1,490 McDonald's across France have reopened since closing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Most McDonald's restaurants remain open in the US and all are open in Australia where they are only allowing takeaway, drive through and delivery services.

To help fill the void, fans have been recreating their favourite menu items from home.

This mum revealed how she makes her own version of the iconic sausage McMuffin in just a few short steps.

Meanwhile, another amateur chef said they've been making their own Big Macs and rates them 10 out of 10.
