Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be performing at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival due to “unforeseen scheduling conflicts.” Megan was set to appear at the festival on Sept. 23 alongside headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ms. Lauryn Hill, along with Conan Gray, Stray Kids, Jung Kook and many more.
A representative for Megan succinctly confirmed the news in the following statement: “Due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be available to perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival.”
Megan’s name was not present on recent announcements from the festival and had disappeared from the website, but her team maintained that it was an error. She will appear at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards alongside Cardi B, to give “Bongos” its live debut.
Many online speculators are assuming Megan’s leave is an indication of her possible presence at Beyoncé’s Houston show in Texas which is scheduled to take place the same day as Global Citizen, though no such thing has been confirmed. Both women are from Houston and share a remix of Megan’s viral hit “Savage,” which was released in March 2020. Megan has also repeatedly credited Beyoncé for influencing her artistry.
Taking place in New York City’s Central Park, the Global Citizen Festival is a free, ticketed event that will be broadcast live and is driving urgent action to end extreme poverty by calling on world leaders to address the issue along with climate crisis and equity for women and girls. The concert and its surrounding initiatives are timed to impact a September gathering in New York of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.
To obtain tickets for the show, music fans can sign up to carry out an action on either the Global Citizen app or the org’s www.globalcitizen.org website.
