Mum’s odd cleaning hack banishes stains from walls in seconds – using mayonnaise

A mum has shared a little-known cleaning hack to help scrub walls covered in crayons – and all you need is a common condiment.

Jessica Hard posted footage to Facebook of her white wall covered in blue ink last week.

In the clip, she holds up a big tub of mayonnaise to the camera before rubbing a towel supposedly covered in the substance on the dirty wall.

As if by magic, the crayon marks disappear with ease.

“It literally wipes off,” Jessica says in the clip. “F***ing parenting hack. That is nuts, what?”

Her video has since been seen an astonishing 1.4million times since being posted on Thursday.

“Just so everyone that’s a mum knows,” she said in the caption. “Mayonnaise takes crayon off walls.”

Viewers were amazed at the hack, with one writing: “Omg that’s crazy.”

Another commented: “Can’t say I’ve ever thought to slam some mayo on a wall."

One was so baffled by the hack that they claimed: “It doesn’t disappear, the mayo just becomes the colour of the wall.”

Cleaning hacks

But there is some method to the madness. The oils in mayonnaise allow it to break down the wax in the crayon.

To effectively wash away the crayon marks from walls, leave the mayo to soak on the wall for around five to 10 minutes.

Then wipe the surface with a damp cloth to make sure all the substance is removed.

The magical white condiment also has another use. The same oils inside it make it great for removing sticky residue left behind from labels.

It is not the only cleaning hack to have been shared by a mum in recent weeks.
