Netflix has never really been chill.
Scrolling through the streaming service can be sensory overload, and the autoplaying previews on the homepage, which are meant to catch viewers’ eyes, are actually catching viewers’ ire.
Apparently, Netflix has heard the complaints. The multibillion-dollar company responded to a tweet Thursday with some welcome news, offering its users a reprieve.
“Some people find this feature helpful. Others not so much. We’ve heard the feedback loud and clear — members can now control whether or not they see autoplay previews on Netflix. Here’s how:”
The tweet leads to the company’s website with instructions on how to turn off the force-fed trailers. The one catch is it can’t be turned off through the app alone.
To turn off autoplaying previews, after signing in through a web browser, head to “Manage Profiles,” select your own, and uncheck the option to “autoplay previews while browsing on all devices.”
It’s as simple as that. Although the jury is still out on whether or not it will help you make a decision on what to watch any faster.
Twitter users responded as Twitter users do, with snark, sarcasm and making suggestions for other things they think could be improved.
“I cancelled my Netflix subscription when they put out a Goop show, but letting me turn off autoplay is almost enough to bring me back,” wrote @RyeCarrigan.
“How about an easy way to let *every* movie and show play all the way to the very end of the credits without having to opt out of having something else start playing?” wrote @tracygarza.
“What about going back in time to unwatch a movie?” joked @PVarga, who must have just sat through The Irishman.
Netflix has tried to roll out numerous new features over the years, including letting mobile users speed up the pace of shows, which drew criticism from Hollywood heavyweights such as Judd Apatow.
“We’re always experimenting with new ways to help members use Netflix,” a Netflix spokesperson told The Post last fall.
