Prince Edward & Sophie, Countess of Wessex give RARE TV insight into Royal Family life

Prince Edward, 55, is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. At the time of writing, this means that he is now 10th in the line of succession to the British throne. As a working royal, he spends much of his time supporting the monarch in royal duties. Since officially joining the Royal Family back in 1999, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 54, has also served as a working member of the Royal Family.

Being one of the most high-profile families in the UK, there is great interest from royal fans when it comes to finding out what their lives are like.

And, back in 2016, the Earl and Countess of Wessex sat down for an interview with Rhiannon Mills for Sky News.

In the chat, which took place ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday, the couple gave some insight into being a member of the British Royal Family.

Part of the interview saw Prince Edward address how his parents had continued to carry on working well into their 90th years.

Now 92, Queen Elizabeth still carries out her role as a working royal and the head of the monarchy.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip, now 97, announced his plans to retire in May 2017, and took part in his final public meeting in August that year.

Touching on how many people of the same age would spend their later years enjoying their retirement and taking things slower, the Prince explained how neither of them wanted to “put their feet up”.

“To be honest, the business is a people business. That’s what it’s about,” he continued.

“It’s that interest and continuing interest in people which what keeps us all going and it keeps them going. It’s the passions and interests that they have. I mean my grandmother was the same.

“Frankly, the more active that they are and the more interest they have, the more interested they stay, the far better.”

Prince Edward went on to touch on how the royal role is dramatically different to the jobs many Britons will carry out in their lifetime.

“You can’t avoid it in this job, you can’t put your feet up,” he added.

“There is no pension plan,” the Prince lightheartedly concluded.

Prince Edward and Sophie, who was born Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones, are believed to have begun dating soon after they both attended a charity event in 1993.

The couple announced their plans to wed six years later, and married at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel some months later, on June 19.
