- Bedbible analyzed data to find which positions people Googled in each state
- The ‘pretzel’ was the most-searched move in a total of 14 states
- The second in the rankings was the ‘speed bump’
The most-searched sex position in America is one that you’ve likely never heard of.
The sex toy review platform Bedbible analyzed Google Trends data to find out which X-rated acrobatics people were Googling in each state — and the results may be surprising to fans of the standard ‘missionary’ and ‘cowgirl’ positions.
The ‘pretzel’ took the top spot in 14 states, according to the new research.
Residents of Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, and West Virginia were intrigued by the position, which sounds more complicated than it is.

The ‘pretzel’ took the top spot in 14 states, including Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana
The move that captured interest in Alabama, Maine, and Rhode Island was the ‘eagle’ position
To pull off the move, one partner has to lie on their side as the other straddles their bottom leg and holds up their top leg while penetrating them.
Not only does the position provide deeper penetration, but it also allows for strong eye contact and enhanced intimacy.
The second in the rankings was the ‘speed bump’ thanks to searches in Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.
The maneuver is similar to ‘doggy style,’ but instead of the receiving partner being on all fours, they are lying on their stomach with a pillow underneath their hips to create the ‘speed bump.’
The angle is a great option for couples who are looking to stimulate the G-spot.
Next up was the ‘Eiffel Tower’ — a three-person position in which one partner gets on all fours to form the ‘base’ of the tower.
That person performs oral sex on the partner in front of them while being penetrated by their second partner from behind. The outside partners high-five above the other person to complete the tower.
Connecticut, Delaware, Oregon, and Wyoming were the four states that searched for this sex position the most.
Meanwhile, California, New York, and Virginia all favored the ‘Cupid’s arrow,’ a variation of missionary sex.
Residents of Georgia took to Google to research the classic ‘spooning’ position
The ‘lotus’ – a modified version of the cowgirl – was a favored search in Montana and New Hampshire
The most-searched position in Missouri, Vermont, and Washington was the ‘wheelbarrow,’ an acrobatic maneuver that is not for the unathletic
The penetrating person lies on their back while the other is on top, resting on their elbows and keeping their legs together between their partner’s.
Another missionary-style move that captured interest in Alabama, Maine, and Rhode Island was the ‘eagle’ position.
One partner lies down with their legs open — spread eagle — while the other penetrates them.
Residents of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota were equally titillated by the ‘piledriver,’ an advanced sex move that requires both flexibility and strength.
One partner lies on the floor with their legs over their head and their lower back lifted off the ground. The other person then squats and penetrates them from up above.
The most-searched sex position in every state
The move is also known as the ‘butter churner,’ which was the term that was searched for in Arizona and Illinois.
The most Googled position in Missouri, Vermont, and Washington was the ‘wheelbarrow,’ another acrobatic maneuver that is not for the unathletic.
The move requires the penetrating partner to stand behind the other person and lift their legs while the receiver uses their arms to hold themselves up as if they are a wheelbarrow.
Residents of Florida and Ohio were intrigued by the ‘corkscrew.’
The position begins with one person on their back with the other above them in missionary position.
The receiving partner then closes their legs and twists their waist so their knees are at their side.
The ‘lotus’ — a modified version of the cowgirl — was a favored search in Montana and New Hampshire.
The penetrating partner is sitting while the receiver faces them and wraps their legs around them while rocking back and forth.
Residents of South Carolina were searching for the ‘butterfly,’ a position in which the receiver lies on their back on the edge of a bed while their partner stands to penetrate them.
Hawaii’s favored sex position was the ‘jackhammer,’ a more aggressive version of doggy style.
The penetration partner holds the receiver upside down and spreads their legs to resemble the handles of a jackhammer while entering them.
Michigan residents may be the most pure of heart with the traditional ‘missionary’ position being their top search choice.
In New Jersey, there was interest in the ‘prone’ position that requires the receiving partner to lie flat on their stomach while they are penetrated from behind.
The ‘sniper’ — an oral sex position — captured the attention of people in North Carolina, where it was the most-searched move.
It is a fairly simple position in which the giver lies on their stomach instead of their knees while performing oral sex.
Residents of Georgia took to Google to research the classic ‘spooning’ position, where both partner lie on one side, facing the same direction, while having sex.
Finally, in Alaska, residents may be curious about domination with their frequent searches of the ‘triceratops’ position.
The receiver bends over with their stomach parallel to the floor as their partner holds their arms to the side of their body and penetrates them from behind.
An expert from Bedbible noted that it is ‘important to experiment’ and try new positions to ‘keep the spark alive in the bedroom.’
‘With so many out there, it can be a challenge to know which positions to try and if they are going to work for you,’ the spokesperson explained.
‘Being able to do research beforehand can make you feel a lot more comfortable about experimenting. It’s also important to remember that trial and error should be fun with a partner rather than a worry to get it right.
‘This study gives an exciting insight into which states are searching the most for which positions, giving us a strong indication that America is extremely creative and exciting in the bedroom, with many states searching for completely different positions.’
