Directed by Jeff Rowe, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” follows four mutant turtle brothers — Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo — as they try to earn the love and affection from New York City by defeating an army of evil mutants to become heroes in the Big Apple.
The ensemble voice cast features comedians, rappers and on-screen newcomers and veterans, including Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Natasia Demetriou, Giancarlo Esposito, Ice Cube, Paul Rudd, Austin Post (Post Malone), Hannibal Buress and Jackie Chan as Splinter.
Meanwhile, the animated film was a box office hit with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies planning a sequel and new Paramount+ series, while it received mostly positive reviews from critics and general audiences, alike.
“In any case, the movie’s mostly just meant to be fun, and that it is, skewing young while giving lifelong fans (including those who grew up on the Turtles) plenty to geek out about,” Variety critic Peter DeBruge penned in his film review.
