This £3 fake tan hack that removes stickiness from skin is hailed as ‘life-changing’ by beauty lovers

Whether you’re relatively new to fake tanning or are religious about maintaining your golden glow, there’s one thing we can all agree on – the sticky feeling after applying it can be awful.

Even if you’ve only used self tan once in your life, you’ll know exactly what we mean; that lingering residue that sits on your skin and leaves it feeling tacky, sticking to your clothes and rubbing off on your bedsheets.

Although the sticky residue is totally normal, and disappears once you’ve washed the tan off, there’s no denying that it can make the whole experience considerably more irksome to do.

However, one TikTok video has gone viral after it showed the ultimate post-tan hack to help get rid of the sticky feeling. Content creatorEllie Cravenposted the video, which has almost 80k likes already, which shows her liberally applying baby powder to her skin after tanning.

Ellie captioned the video: “The biggest life hack you will ever get and it will change ur life” as the video shows her liberally pouring talcum powder over her skin, including her arms, legs, chest and neck and rubbing it in lightly with her hands.

Ellie also wrote on the video: “If you’re not yet caking yourself in baby powder after you fake tan then you really are doing life wrong xxx”

In the video, Ellie is using a mega 500g bottle of Johnson’s Baby Powder, £3.50 here, and although she’s applying large quantities of it, the hack ends up working out mega cheap each time you do it, with the £3.50 tub going a long way.

Some commenters were concerned that the hack would end up ruining their tan, but others were quick to put their mind at ease, with one writing: “Spray tan artist here- we use powder after our spray tans to help not feel so sticky while processing, it doesn’t alter how the solution works!”

When asked if it's better to use your hands or a brush, they replied: “Either way is fine! I normally put a lot on my clients so they don't feel icky while they wait to wash it!”

Another gave a helpful hint saying: “I tan with one side of the tanning mitt then talc with the other side … I don’t put LOADS on just enough to stop it being sticky.”

Others also shared they’d been doing this hack already with no issues, saying: “I tan and put talc on straight away to stop the stickiness and honestly tan comes out exactly the same!!!”

Whilst another wrote: “I do it every time, no streaks ever x”

Apart from stopping your skin from feeling sticky, the Johnson’s Baby Powder, £3.50 here, acts as a setting powder for your tan, which means it shouldn’t rub off on your clothes or bed sheets while you wait for it to set.

No more stained sheets, clothes, or standing like a scarecrow trying not to crease? For just £3.50? That’s our kind of hack.
