Aston Villa fans seething at claims they are ‘doing a Fulham’ as Dean Smith’s side make 11th and 12th summer signings on Thursday – The Sun

ASTON VILLA fans were left seething at claims they are "doing a Fulham" after the club made their 11th and 12th summer signings today.

After Dean Smith sanctioned two more deals – for Tom Heaton and Marvelous Nakamba – to take the club's summer spending beyond £100million, fans took to Twitter to claim they're falling into a similar trap to Fulham a year ago.

The Cottagers spent big last year on flops like Jean Michael Seri, but a lack of squad cohesion saw them immediately relegated.

As Villa continued to add to their summer stockpile, fans quickly turned on them – but supporters of the Midlanders leapt to their defence.

One wrote: "I can see why some people think Villa are 'doing a Fulham' but I have to disagree.

"Looks like they've made some great additions to their team and look in decent shape as the season approaches. Big test for Dean Smith to get them to gel."

DOING A WOLVES?

Another added: "Lots of teams get promoted and spend big money – why when Villa do it they ‘doing a Fulham?’

"What’s to say they’re not ‘doing a Brighton’ or ‘doing a Wolves’ ?"

A third simply said: "This Aston Villa and Fulham comparison is so lazy and frankly quite boring."

In signing current England international Heaton, Smith's summer spree exceeded the £100m mark.

On Heaton, Smith claimed: “I am delighted that Tom is joining Aston Villa.

“He’s done fantastically well for Burnley over the past few years and his experience and knowledge of the Premier League will be a major asset to us this season.”
