Cambridge United players mock Ted Hankey ‘devil’ meme during celebrations

Cambridge United stars George Williams and Harvey Knibbs celebrated their shock FA Cup victory over Newcastle by doing their best impressions of BDO darts icon Ted Hankey.

A bizarre rant from the 2000 and 2009 BDO World Darts Champion went viral earlier in the month after resurfacing on Twitter, a rant which included a namecheck for Satan himself.

Hankey, nicknamed The Count, was a fan-favourite villain during his time on the professional circuit, briefly appearing on the PDC tour before stepping away from darts in 2016.

With Wayne Mardle referencing the aforementioned clip during his punditry role during the recent PDC World Darts Championship, it hasn't escaped the Cambridge United playing squad.

Williams and Knibbs threw imaginary darts following the final whistle, with the right-back saying: "Who's in charge, me or the devil? Double eight… f*** it."

Cambridge were free to enjoy themselves after Joe Ironside guided home the only goal of the match, booking a fourth-round clash against Championship outfit Luton Town.

Their darts-inspired celebration came after Mardle mentioned the famous clip of Hankey during Peter Wright's eventual victory over Michael Smith on January 3.

With Snakebite needing 25 to win a leg, Mardle said: "Can he take out the devil's finish? This is devilish. Who's in charge? He is!"

With Hankey saying during his clash against John Walton during his BDO days when trying to take out the same checkout of 25: "Do I fancy double 12 or double eight? Who's in charge, me or the devil?"

Adding: "I think I'm in charge. Fat nine, double eight, shake his hand. Just like that.

"Come on you c***, f******, you c***."

Hankey proceeds to miss the double eight, with Walton taking the leg on his subsequent visit.

One person said: "Wayne Mardle referencing the Ted Hankey video is the greatest moment of this year's PDC and I won't hear otherwise."

With a second adding: "Mardle dropping the Hankey reference this games got it all."
