    Napoli's potential last African star

New Chelsea signing Kalidou Koulibaly may be one of the last African players to have ever played for Napoli.

That's because the club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis refuses to buy another player from the continent unless they agree not to play in the AFCON tournament.

Laurentiis, shared his frustrations to Football Italia and said: "I told them lads, don’t talk to me about Africans anymore!

“I love them, but either they sign something confirming they’ll back out of playing the Africa Cup of Nations, or otherwise between that tournament, the World Cup qualifiers in South America, these players are never available!

“We are the idiots who pay salaries only to send them all over the world playing for others.”

Chelsea evidently don't share Napoli's worry as they signed the Senegal international this summer from the Serie A sluggers.

"I feel they should have signed Kounde from Sevilla! I know they were very close to signing him and I think they have made a big mistake by not getting that deal done.

"The board was really close to getting him signed but it seems they took too long.

"They took too long for a player of his quality and you can’t do this with a player like Kounde after the season he just had. He was magnificent last season.

"Chelsea need players of Kounde’s quality."

Ronaldo and Maguire are players most abused online

Cristiano Ronaldo topped a list of the most abused Premier League footballers – with EIGHT of the top ten Manchester United stars.

The Portuguese superstar, 37, received a staggering 12,520 vicious messages between August 13, 2021 and January 24, 2022.

That included a spike on August 27, the day he completed his transfer to Old Trafford.

Club captain Harry Maguire was second on 8,954 in the same period.

Of those, a staggering 2,903 were sent on November 7 after Maguire apologised to fans following the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Marcus Rashford (2,557), Bruno Fernandes (2,464), Fred (1,924) and David De Gea (1,394) were also in the top ten – with departing midfielders Jesse Lingard (1,605) and Paul Pogba (1,446) seventh and ninth respectively.

Tottenham's Harry Kane (2,127) and Jack Grealish (1,538) of Manchester City were the only two not playing for the Red Devils during that period to make the list of insulted stars – which includes six England internationals.

In total, the BBC state Ofcom recorded 600,000 of 2.3million tweets in the first five months of last season – with seven in ten top-flight players affected.

Seven per cent of footballers received abuse every day while just two per cent of the players on the end of half of the total offence. However, the Alan Turing Institute – the UK's national institute for data science and artificial intelligence – found the majority of football fans used social media responsibly.
