Conor McGregor next fight: Five men The Notorious could face after UFC 264 loss to Poirier, including Jake Paul

CONOR MCGREGOR's trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier ended with him suffering yet another defeat to the American.

The MMA superstar met The Diamond again in Julyin the main event of UFC 264 for a rubber match.

But the Irishman failed to exact revenge on his old featherweight rival, after suffering a horrific leg injury.

Attention has already turned to who McGregor will fight, after he underwent successful leg surgery and has started training again.

With that in mind, SunSport thought it'd only be right to give you the lowdown on the five men The Notorious is most likely to fight next.

DUSTIN POIRIER (AGAIN)

It feels like this rivalry isn't over after the shocking way McGregor lost in the first-round of their trilogy fight.

The pair continued to argue in the post-fight interviews and press conference and there's no loved lost there.

And both have confirmed they want the fourth instalment, which will excited the fans even more.

Poirier is set to challenge for Charles Oliveira's lightweight belt, but could then bring the strap to a fourth fight with McGregor.

Nate Diaz

McGregor and Nate Diaz's names will forever be linked as a result of their back-to-back wars in 2016.

Fight fans are itching for a series decider between the pair, who faced off with one another at UFC 196 and UFC 202.

To say the trash talkers have unfinished business would be one of the biggest understatements in the sport.

Diaz's interest in a trilogy with The Mac has seemingly waned in recent years.

But with both men currently riding two-fight skids, one can't help but think now is the perfect time for the pair to finally settle the score.

Justin Gaethje

Somehow, Justin Gaethje has become the odd man out in the stacked lightweight division- which is baffling considering he was the last man to lose to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Fan favourite Gaethje is champing at the bit to get back inside the cage and resume his pursuit of the lightweight title, which he failed to claim last October at UFC 254.

And what better way for The Highlight to stake his claim for a second crack at the belt than by getting a win over the division's former ruler.

Stylistically, a Gaethje vs McGregor match-up is a fan's dream.

And if you factor the pair's legitimate beef into the equation, you have a mouth-watering fight on deck.

Rafael dos Anjos

Former lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos has had a torrid time when it's come to landing a fight with McGregor.

The Brazilian has twice been matched up against Mystic Mac, with their first meeting being booked for UFC 196.

Injury nixed the pair's champion-versus-champion bout and their proposed interim welterweight title fight was scuppered by McGregor's rampage at the UFC 223 media day in April 2018.

With McGregor now on the worst skid of this 13-year-long career, RDA is back within touching distance of getting his hands on the Dubliner.

Hardcore MMA fans wouldn't bat an eyelid at the fight, although it would be a tough sell for casual observers of the sport.

Jake Paul

Should McGregor opt to try his hand at boxing again, a fight with YouTube star Jake Paul could be in the offing.

Social media sensation Paul, the younger brother of Logan, has been aggressively chasing a showdown with Ireland's first UFC champion.

Paul went to great lengths to get McGregor's attention, insulting his fiancee in an x-rated call-out video.

And after beating ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley in August, he emerged with a credible name on his record.
