TUESDAY 8 March is International Women’s Day. The theme for this year is #BreakTheBias.

In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City. They wanted shorter hours, better pay and the right to vote.

The following year, the first official National Woman’s Day was held. However, it wasn’t until 1977 that the UN adopted a resolution calling on all Member States to observe a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.
