BIG DADDY Callum Smith reminded the world of his devastating power with a third-round knockout win over Hassan N’Dam.
After nine months out of the ring, to coincide with the birth of his daughter Alba, the super-middleweight WBA champ and Ring Magazine king defended his titles in a one-sided showcase.
The dominating win came just hours after Smith's beloved Liverpool were crowned Champions League winners for a sixth time – after beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid.
Smith wasted no time in calling out boxing’s biggest draw and Mexican monster Canelo Alvarez for a mouthwatering fight.
He said: “It felt good to be back in there. I believe I am the best in the world and I want to prove that.
“Canelo is a special fighter but I believe I’m the best fighter at 168lbs and I’m ready for the challenge.”
On the Anthony Joshua undercard at Madison Square Garden, the 29-year-old floored the challenger in the first and second rounds with left hooks.
And he completed the job in the third round with his most savage shot of the night that left N’Dam stumbling around the ring.
The straight right hand thundered into N'Dam's jaw and neck and sent him back to the deck for Smith's hat-trick.
The 6ft 3in Liverpool ace towered over the 35-year-old Cameroon born trier, it defies logic that the champ can get down to 12st for these nights.
It looked like Smith might lose momentum after beating George Groves into retirement at the end of September.
But he has lost none of his poise or venom from his break from battle and N’Dam was a sacrificial lamb.
And Canelo should be very afraid of stepping in the ring with the fearsome father and punishing puncher.
