Man Utd news LIVE: Rooney backs Messi over Ronaldo, Garnacho WINS player of the month, Piers Morgan interview reaction | The Sun

WAYNE ROONEY has chosen Lionel Messi as his 'GOAT' footballer over ex-Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo hit out at Rooney in his explosive interview with Piers Morgan earlier this week, calling him a 'rat'.

Rooney said: "Everyone has different views on [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo but I have said many times that I think Messi is the best.

"He has everything – the way he controls games, his dribbling, his assists whereas Ronaldo is more of a goal scorer."

Meanwhile, United Alejandro Garnacho has won Manchester United's player of the month award for November.

Garnacho scored United's last-gasp winner against Fulham in their final Premier League outing before the World Cup.

    Good morning Man Utd fans!

Manchester United are preparing to take legal action against Cristiano Ronaldo over his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo has torn the club to shreds in a two night one-on-one world exclusive on Talk TV that has rocked football.

SunSport revealed exclusively this week that the club wanted to rip up his contract.

A club statement has now seemed to confirm that.

United have reportedly instructed Ronaldo not to return to Carrington once he gets back from the World Cup.

Meanwhile, CR7 and his international colleagues were suited and booted as they landed at Hamad International Airport on Friday.

He showed no ill-effects of a stomach bug as he looked a picture of concentration in front of the camera upon arrival in the Middle East.

In the second part of the incredible interview released on Thursday, Ronaldo shockingly revealed he wants bitter rivals Arsenal to clinch the title if United can’t.

That was after stating that he believes his side are three years away from challenging themselves.

But for at least the next fortnight the superstar is focused on trying to land the one crown that has so far evaded him.

Portugal kick-off their World Cup campaign next Thursday against Ghana.

They then face Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.

    Shaw thing for Luke

Luke Shaw has made the bizarre revelation that he has a tattoo of the Coco Pops monkey on his left arm.

The England and Manchester United left-back is in Qatar preparing for the World Cup as the national team looks to end 56 years of hurt.

Shaw, 25, says the image of the popular cereal-selling primate is a tribute to his two-year-old son Reign.

The goalscorer in the Euro 2020 Final told the Lions Den YouTube channel about the unique ink.

He said: “My son is obsessed with Coco Pops, he has a lot of them in the morning, I thought it would be quite cool because he is interested in my tattoos.”

    Rooney chooses Messi over Rooney

The jibe came as a surprise to Rooney, who fired a thinly-veiled one back at his former team-mate when asked about the long-running Messi vs Ronaldo debate ahead of the World Cup.

He told The Times: "Everyone has different views on [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo but I have said many times that I think Messi is the best.

"I have watched lots of videos of Diego Maradona, who was a similar player, but Messi is better.

"He has everything — the way he controls games, his dribbling, his assists — whereas Ronaldo is more of a goalscorer.

"It would be a great story for football if either Messi or Ronaldo won the World Cup.

"I have heard some of the Argentine players saying that they want to win it for Messi.

"That’s crazy — and might only increase the pressure on them."

    Rooney responds

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo after being branded a “rat” by his former team-mate.

Rooney said: “Well, listen, Cristiano Ronaldo’s a fantastic player and, as I’ve said before, he and [Lionel] Messi are the two best players probably to play the game.

“And, again, it’s not a criticism. What I’ve said is age comes to all of us, and Cristiano is obviously feeling now that he’s finally had to deal with that.

Obviously, he’s done an interview, and it’s gone global, and it’s strange, some of the comments are strange.

“But I’m sure Manchester United will deal with it once they’ve seen the full interview, and they will take whatever action they need to take”

'The fans will always be in my heart', says Ronaldo

It’s difficult to tell right now, it’s because, we, my mood is right now to the World Cup. It’s probably my last World Cup, of course, my fifth World Cup.

I don’t know what’s gonna happen after the World Cup, but as I told you before, and I will say again, the fans will be always in my heart.

I hope they been in my side, even if I back, or if I’m not back, or if I stay or whatever. Nobody’s perfect. Episodes in the life we all have is part of the human beings, is part of me to be a human being and father as well. I always will commit mistakes.

I want to play two or three years more, maximum. I want to finish at 40; a good age.

Adidas have revealed an incredible new advert to celebrate Lionel Messi’s final World Cup that features him playing against FOUR versions of himself.

“It was a big disappointment not to be selected for the squad four years ago and I consider myself really lucky to be here this time. I have worked really hard to be selected for this tournament but I don’t think of it as revenge or having anything to prove.

“I am just grateful to be here and for everything that has happened since my return to the national team and I certainly prefer to be in this position than the one I was in four years ago”

"We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion.’

Saying "yes it's true" and he turned it down "in that moment”, Ronaldo said: "It's hard. It's hard. But in the same way, I thought that I was very happy here; that I [am] still capable to score goals and make people happy.

    Bellingham to stand out

Borussia Dortmund star and Manchester United target Jude Bellingham has been tipped to take the World Cup by storm with England.

Bellingham is hoping to start in the Three Lions’ opener against Iran on Monday.

The midfielder’s Dortmund team-mate Gregor Kobel reckons the teen sensation has what it takes to light up Qatar.

Asked if Bellingham can be one of the stars of the tournament, Kobel replied: “For sure. He’s an unbelievable talent. He has so much quality and I think his mind is also really, really strong.

“He has a great mentality and always wants to get better. He always wants to win the game.

    Arsenal could sign Bellingham

Former Chelsea ace Scott Minto has suggested Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham could choose Arsenal instead of other top hitters like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Minto told Ladbrokes: “Up until the start of this season, everybody was saying he’s Liverpool’s player because they were right up there with Manchester City. But I’m still wondering whether or not they’re going to make the top four.

“He’s good enough to play a key role for the very best teams in the world, and the very best team for me is Manchester City, but if Arsenal can finish in the top four, or better still, in second place, or even go on to win the title, then all of a sudden they become as attractive a proposition as City, just like that.

“When you look at what that team is all about under Mikel Arteta, and there’d be a need for them to strengthen if they’re playing on Europe’s biggest stage, why couldn’t they go and get a Bellingham?”

Ajax chief executive Edwin Van der Sar revealed the Dutch champions did not even enter negotiations with Arsenal during their interest in now Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez..

Former United goalkeeper Van der Sar told The Athletic: “Arsenal came earlier for Lisandro, but it was an amount where we said, ‘Thank you very much for the offer, but we’d rather keep the player than start negotiating’.

“With United, it was a little bit different. Over the years, we have had a few conversations: with Daley Blind and Donny van de Beek. My job is making sure I make the best decisions for Ajax.”

“I spoke with United about Erik [ten Hag], with Richard Arnold. Erik did a fantastic job here, putting Ajax back on the European map with the players we had.

“You know, in hindsight, that managers like the players they work with, the type of football Erik wanted to play, and with Martinez there, he has shown his worth now”
