Webb calls for clamp down on card waving

Refs chief Howard Web has told Premier League officials they MUST clamp down on players waving imaginary cards.

PGMOL boss Webb has also reiterated the need for refs to enforce directives penalising dissent.

And in a further statement of intent, Webb wants VAR officials to step in if “soft” penalties are wrongly awarded.

The former World Cup final whistler laid down his demands at the scheduled gathering of officials at their Loughborough base ahead of this weekend’s Prem resumption.

Webb pointed out that the early season directive to book – and if a second offence, send off – players showing imaginary cards after fouls appears to have been forgotten in recent weeks.

That inconsistency has been a complaint from fans up and down the country.

Webb is equally keen to ensure the strong line against dissent continues – as a way of enforcing better behaviour from players and managers alike.

Man Utd trolled by Man City

Manchester United have been brutally trolled by Manchester City with an astonishing video.

City beat Man Utd 3-0 when they visited Old Trafford in the Premier League last month.

Erling Haaland scored two that day with Phil Foden bagging the other goal.

City Women then followed this up with a win of their own in the Women's Super League.

After initially going behind City came back to win the match 3-1, which also saw Chloe Kelly brutally troll Man Utd after setting up the equaliser.

And the trolling continued on social media with a savage post.

City shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, of "Every 𝑪𝑰𝑻𝒀 knee slide at Old Trafford this season!"

The 18-second clip showed Haaland, Lauren Hemp, Foden and Khadija Shaw all knee sliding on the pitch.

The ad finishes with the sentence: “There are some things that even Checkatrade can’t fix.”

On her client’s future, agent Rafaela Pimenta said: “Already in the previous transfer market he had the possibility of being sold, but Santos’ sporting situation was very particular.

“He agreed to stay because he wanted to help out until the end of the championship.

“He didn’t want to leave because it wasn’t the right thing to do.

“But the time has come to move. He wants to have a European experience and his time will come this winter.”

Fernandes on how to pronounce his name

Bruno Fernandes has corrected fans and pundits alike on how to pronounce his name.

But in a new video produced by the Premier League, the 29-year-old has put people right.

In a clip also featuring the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Kevin De Bruyne, Dejan Kulusevski and Kaoru Mitoma – stars from overseas clearly said their names authentically.

While Fernandes' Red Devils team-mates Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund also got involved.

    Man Utd plot major clearout

Man Utd are plotting a major clearout to offload ten players over the next two transfer windows, according to Manchester Evening News.

The long list includes defender Jonny Evans who is nearly 36 and could struggle to earn himself a new deal as his contract runs out next year.

Raphael Varane is another suspect who is at risk of being thrown out the exit door as he has fallen down the pecking order.

Meanwhile, full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is approaching the final six months of his contract as his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.

Also Anthony Martial's future remains unclear as his contract runs out next June.

And the other culprits on the offload list are backup shot-stopper Tom Heaton and Hannibal Mejbri whose contracts run out in 2024.

Neville names dream Man Utd manager

Gary Neville has named the manager he would pick to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United – Jurgen Klopp.

Asked who he thought was the best manager in the world, Neville replied: "I’d say Jurgen Klopp.

"Jurgen Klopp works with a budget that is far less than Pep Guardiola’s. Pep Guardiola is a genius and he’ll be one of the ones that’ll be remembered forever more.

"But Jurgen Klopp for me is an amazing manager. If you said to me which manager would you bring into Manchester United tomorrow, it’d be Jurgen Klopp. But [Liverpool] might never let him leave!"

Ratcliffe is set to finally confirm his partial buy-out and take charge of United’s footballing future.

That is because Erik ten Hag’s side face a make or break Champions League spell which will have massive financial and morale implications.

    Maguire offered apology

A Ghanaian politician who mocked Harry Maguire has offered a bizarre apology to the “transformed” Manchester United star.

Isaac Adongo went viral a year ago after using Maguire’s career as an analogy to attack political opponents during a debate about the economy.

At the time, Maguire was struggling to command a place in Erik ten Hag’s United side.

But things have panned out differently for Maguire this term, having regained his place and become an important presence in United’s defence.

And Mr Adongo has also now made an incredible U-turn, admitting he was wrong to call out Maguire.

    Sounded out

Sky Sports could use pre-recorded crowd noise to block out an X-rated chant from Everton fans against Manchester United on Sunday.

Home supporters will protest at the club's ten-point deduction by blasting "Premier League corrupt as f***" in the tenth minute of the live TV game.

The Times say Sky will act to drown out any offensive language – to make sure their coverage sticks within broadcast guidelines.

That could include using noise already recorded – a tactic deployed during the Covid lockdown.

    Ex-United star on Griezmann links

Louis Saha has had his say on Man Utd's transfer links to Antoine Griezmann.

He told Paddy Power: "Antoine Griezmann is a talented player and unlike many players, there’s never any doubts about him. He’s very mobile and physically he’ll always find the right area.

"Manchester United’s interest in him show straight away that there is something wrong.

"They already have Mason Mount, but it means they’re looking at a replacement for him because Griezmann is the type of player that Manchester United need.

"He’s a clever player who can be in the pocket, create things and score goals. He is a great player who has scored so many goals for Atletico Madrid and it would be really exciting. But I don’t see him as a future signing for Manchester United.

"No disrespect to Griezmann at all, but I don’t understand why they [the Manchester United board] would be looking at him. He’s a short-term solution but I don’t see the future of Manchester United with Antoine Griezmann in it."

    Ex-United star slams Red Devils

Ex-Man Utd striker Louis Saha has piled criticism onto his former club, saying the current squad and dynamic is "not good enough".

He told Paddy Power: "If we compare Portugal’s team to Manchester United’s, it’s clear why Bruno Fernandes performs better for country than club.

"At Manchester United, there are about five or six players who aren’t at the level they should be confidence-wise, and that brings a lot of pressure to the likes of Bruno Fernandes who must deliver each week.

"Marcus Rashford, Antony, Rasmus Højlund all need to do more because in one game, there aren’t enough players playing with full confidence. It should be eight or nine at least but that’s the current dynamic at Manchester United.

"It’s not right! The link between the players is not right, the speed of the buildup is not right. They don’t shoot when they’re in the right position and when it's about creativity they need to stop thinking that someone else will move.

"Everything needs to be synced up and it’s not. That puts a lot of pressure on the creative players to do something and it’s not good enough."

Sancho told to LEAVE Man Utd in January

Man Utd outcast Jadon Sancho has been urged to quit the Premier League until his "mind is settled".

Ex-Red Devils striker Louis Saha believes the England winger should join an overseas club in January to resolve his "horrible situation".

He told Paddy Power: “Jadon Sancho can play in any side in the Premier League – he's got the quality for that.

"He needs somewhere where he’ll find the right mentality. Quality-wise he’s a terrific player but his mind is against him.

"His fitness wasn’t right when he arrived at Manchester United, and he had to work really hard to get fit and that didn’t help him."

Saha added: “It would be nice to see him fulfil his potential in the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world.

"Moving to Saudi Arabia would be a bit extreme, but I can see him playing in Spain or another top league where he can go and enjoy his football before coming back to England when his mind is settled.

"That's the most likely scenario I can see happening."
