Stars turned down captaincy
Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba turned down the Manchester United captaincy, sources say.
The duo were both offered the role by then boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer — but snubbed it for different reasons.
In a no-holds-barred interview this week Solskjaer said he was “disappointed” when two players rejected the armband.
However, he refused to name names.
Now a source has revealed: “Paul Pogba was offered it but said he wanted to leave the club so turned it down.
“Rashford was also asked to take the captaincy but he said he didn’t think he was ready for it.”

Jonny Evans calls second United debut the 'best night of my life'
Evans put in a starring performance as Manchester United edged a 1-0 win over Burnley.
The central defender made his second full debut for the Red Devils as he replaced the injured Lisandro Martinez in the starting xi for last night's clash at Turf Moor.
Evans put in an imperious defensive display and played a stunning pass for Bruno Fernandes to score a remarkable winner on the volley.
The 35-year-old even had the ball in the net after a bullet first-half header, but saw the goal ruled out for an offside call against Rasmus Hojlund.
Following his man-of-the-match display, Evans' name was rang out by the travelling United faithful.
Asked about his performance, a jubilant Evans declared: "I loved every minute of it.
"Coming up here on the bus I was buzzing. That was my 200th game for Man United.
"I never thought I would ever reach that figure – it's the best night of my life."
He continued: "When you get to a certain age you start to wind down your career.
"I got the call from United and didn't have another option, so I just took it and tried to do my best in training and take my chance.
"I was told my role would be to provide competition and that is how I have approached it. With a few injuries I then had the chance to start tonight."

Erik ten Hag warning
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has dealt his players another warning explaining the importance of everyone doing their part.
It’s about 11 players who do their job.
I always tell my players we attack with 11 and defend with 11.
When one or two are not doing their job, it’s like a pack of cards. So that is not only one or two players.

Why takeover was delayed
Manchester United's takeover has been delayed because of the poor start to the season.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who report negotiations have hit a snag following a series of negative results on the pitch.
The Red Devils lost four of their first six games across all competitions, before Saturday's victory at Burnley.
Leading bidders Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are in no rush to increase their bid to £6billion because of the latest displays.
These results have highlighted the size of the re-build the club needs to return to the top.

David de Gea anger
Manchester United players are still seething at the way David de Gea was treated, reports SunSport's Neil Custis.
This comes amid a series of howlers committed by De Gea's successor between the sticks Andre Onana.
SunSport understand the United squad were left fuming when the goalkeeper was shoved out of the side door this summer after 12 years.
The Spaniard is still searching for a new club after leaving on a free transfer once the Red Devils failed to take up their option of extending his deal by 12 months.
The 32-year-old was a hugely popular member of the dressing room and won the Premier League Golden Glove award last season after 17 clean sheets.

Man Utd to sell Sancho
Manchester United are set to take a huge financial loss on Jadon Sancho in order to sell him.
Sancho is suspended from United's first team following a bust-up with manager Erik ten Hag.
It started when Ten Hag blamed the winger's performances in training as the reason he was left out of his squad that lost 3-1 at Arsenal.
The England international then spoke out and claimed he was being used as a "scapegoat" which saw him axed from the Red Devils.
The 23-year-old is believed to have been given the chance to return if he apologised to the Dutch tactician – something he is said to have snubbed.
According to the Daily Star, the Manchester giants are now ready to sell Sancho on the cheap and they could even look to flog the ex-Borussia Dortmund star in January.

Ten Hag will have time
Manchester United hero Alan Smith believes the uncertainty around the ongoing takeover saga means Erik ten Hag's place as manager is safe for now.
I think Manchester United as a club is at in-between stage at the moment.
There's talk of a club sale and reports of unrest in the club.
I can't speculate on the situation of the players, but I think it's been tough for Ten Hag as a lot of these things are outside of his control.
I believe the club will give him time though as I can't see the owners pulling the plug on the manager if they're serious about selling.
If the new owners do arrive, they'll either have a manager in mind, or they'll give him time to build his squad. I don't think there'll be any panic.

And United scouts watched him in Galatasaray's 2-2 Champions League draw with Copenhagen on Wednesday.
Boey inspired an amazing fightback by the Istanbul side, scoring after 86 minutes before Tete levelled two minutes from time.

Can't top that
Former Burnley ace Robbie Blake scored the Clarets' first ever Premier League goal against Manchester United and it cost him Ryan Giggs’ shirt as Sir Alex Ferguson's side lost 1-0.
Blake told SunSport's Pete Thompson:
To play United in the club’s first Premier League home game is what dreams are made of — and the atmosphere was amazing.
In the tunnel before the game, I was asking Ryan Giggs if I could have his shirt at full-time and he said I could have it, provided they didn’t lose.
They werechampions and arguably the best team in the world, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Giggs. We’d lost our first game at Stoke, so to beat United was incredible.
All the so-called experts had been saying they had no idea where our first point would come from and they didn’t see how we would score goals, so to listen to all that baloney and then silence them was amazing.
Our boss Owen Coyle had instilledbelief in us, so we thought we were capable of doing it.

The 30-year-old used to train with former loan side West Ham but an offer to rejoin David Moyes' side has not materialised.

Missed Hojlund swap
Manchester United offered two players to Atalanta in their pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund, but the Serie A outfit insisted on cash only.
United landed Hojlund this summer in a £72million move, but they tried their best to get a deal over the line for less.
According to The Athletic, the Dea were steadfast on getting what they wanted for their former striker.
It is said that both Donny van de Beek and Fred were offered up to the Italians during negotiations.
But it was never an option for Atalanta who were only interested in a sizeable transfer fee.

Rashford on what has gone wrong
Rashford has insisted that the problems at United are simple from not scoring enough and conceding too many.
For me, you have to just look at the simple things first.
We're not scoring as many goals and we're conceding more goals.
If we try to bring those two lines closer together, and try to be a bit more compact, and help the man out to your left or to your right, then yeah, it might mean less chances for the forwards than we're used to from the games last season.
But if we're defensively solid, I believe that we can score against any team in the world.

Rashford on slow start
Marcus Rashford has suggested that Man United need to fix their away form to recover from their poor start to the season.
I think it's definitely not been the start that we would have hoped for in pre-season.
I think that's clear for everyone. We know football is a results-based sport and it always has been. So, we need to get the results in and I'm pretty sure that with the squad that we have, with the staff behind us, once we do get that first hard-fought result, we'll kick on.
It's not the first time I've been in this situation. We were in this situation this time last year, then we had that game against Liverpool [and from then] I don't think we lost at home [in the Premier League] until the Brighton game just gone.
So we know what that [next] win can do for us as a team and then it's up to the players to show consistency and you know, that's the bit that you can say we've lacked.
In terms of last year, we were very consistent at home, so inconsistent away from home. But we need to find a good balance."

The defender joined the club last summer from Real Madrid.
But Sherwood is not sure that the Frenchman has excelled since his arrival.
He told Sky Sports: "Varane, I don’t think, he has been great since he has been to the football club."
