Next Rangers manager latest odds: Search underway after Van Bronckhorst SACKED, Gerrard, Beale & Muscat in contention | The Sun

RANGERS are on the hunt for a new manager after the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman's reign was confirmed as over by the Ibrox club on Monday morning with "recent results not meeting the expectations".

He was in charge for just over a year and led the club to a Scottish Cup triumph, Europa League final and Champions League qualification for the first time in 12 years.

GVB took over from Gerrard last year, with the Scouse boss leaving for Aston Villa.

Now, a sensational return to Ibrox could be on the cards with Gerrard 2/1 with Betfair to return to the club.

Gerrard was replaced by Unai Emery at Aston Villa after a poor start to the season, with Villa since showing a real upturn in results.

He was a fan favourite in Govan having delivered title number 55 which ended Celtic's 10 in a row bid at the final hurdle.

But that relationship turned sour when links to the Premier League arrived as he batted away questions on the Newcastle job.

Weeks later, he quit Ibrox for Villa and took his staff with him.

That staff included Michael Beale who has had an excellent start to management life at QPR – where they sit seventh in the Championship – having quit Villa to take on his first job as the main man.

He was recently a target for Premier League side Wolves for their manager's vacancy.

He's the name many Gers supporters would like to see return and is second favourite at 4/1 to do so.

Could the Rangers hierarchy follow Celtic's recent success and opt for a manager in the Japanese market?

Well ex-defender Kevin Muscat, who is following the trail left by Ange Postecoglou, is available as third favourite now at 6/1.

Having taken over from Postecoglou at Melbourne Victory, he then did likewise to take over at Yokohama F. Marinos when the big Aussie quit for Celtic.

He's since won the league in Japan and given Postecoglou's success and Muscat's affiliation to Rangers, could he be a name the Gers board look to? He is into 6/1 to be the next boss.

Next in the betting is Sean Dyche with the former Burnley boss still waiting to get his next role in the game.

Dyche has been linked with several Premier League and Championship jobs since leaving Turf Moor during the season last year.

He's 8/1 to take the role.

Kevin Thomson left his role in the Rangers academy to pursue a job on his own.

After a strong start at Kelty, he quit the club with the ambitions of moving up the pyramid to a job in full-time football.

He's since been out of work having been knocked back for several top jobs but is 11/1 to head back and take over as Rangers manager.

We told you last week how Rafa Benitez became the latest name to enter the betting.

The ex-Real Madrid, Liverpool and Newcastle boss has been out of work since being sacked by Everton earlier this year.

He'd be a big name that Gers fans have been calling out for after their form has deteriorated in recent weeks.

He's entered the betting this week as a 16/1 shot with Betfair to take the reins in Glasgow.

Chris Wilder is another quoted with a price, though is 16/1 having left Middlesbrough.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Steven Gerrard is the 2/1 favourite to make a sensational return as Rangers manager after Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked on Monday.

"QPR boss Michael Beale is 4/1 to replace the Dutchman, with Sean Dyche 8/1."
