Pacquiao will have hologram of himself beamed in for press conference

Manny Pacquiao will have a HOLOGRAM of himself beamed into a press conference in Los Angeles ahead of charity bout with YouTuber DK Yoo… with ‘PacMan’ set to become the first boxer to use the technology

  • Manny Pacquiao will take on DK Yoo in a charity boxing match in December
  • Their press conference will see a hologram of ‘PacMan’ beamed to Los Angeles
  • It will be the first time the technology has been used for a combat sports event
  • The legendary fighter officially retired from professional boxing last year

Cutting-edge technology will be used to live beam a hologram of Manny Pacquiao from Seoul to Los Angeles for his press conference ahead of his charity bout with DK Yoo in December.

The press conference – taking place later this evening – will mark the first time the technology will have been used for a combat sports event.

It will allow the PacMan to see and hear Yoo and the media, and respond naturally, in real-time, just as if he was in the room.

Manny Pacquiao will have a hologram of himself beamed from Seoul to LA for a press conference ahead of his fight with DK Yoo

The legendary fighter will take on the YouTuber (L) in a charity bout this December in Seoul

The former eight-weight world champion retired from professional boxing last September following a decision defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

However, the Pacman has decided to come out of retirement at the age of 43 to face South Korean YouTuber Yoo in a charity bout later this year in South Korea.

The first press conference from their showdown will drum up anticipation for fans as the legendary Fillipino fighter becomes the latest to wade into YouTube boxing.

However, Pacquiao will not be attending in person. Instead, a hologram of the 43-year-old will be beamed to America.

Pacquiao already faced off with Yoo at the first official press conference in Seoul this week

The Fillipino will become the first fighter to use a hologram in combat sports – and his opponent will be able to both see and interact with him

It comes just days after the pair faced off at the first official press conference in Seoul – ahead of their next virtual encounter in LA.

Speaking about the hologram, Michael Weber, COO of FITE, said: ‘When you’re presenting a Manny Pacquiao fight you don’t mess around, even when time and distance don’t cooperate.

‘Our CMO, Kim Hurwitz, pitched this idea and we loved it. We decided it was time to call on Proto for a high-tech solution to let Manny be literally in two places at once.

‘The PacMan vs. DK Yoo fight which will officially be a Triller Fight Club event on FITE, is going to be such an epic match – even its press conference will be making history.’

This is not the first time hologram company Proto has been used in sport. Formula One star Lewis Hamilton was captured as a hologram during a promotional campaign in America, while earlier this year England rugby stars appeared as holograms to surprise school children with a virtual PE lesson.
