Teeing off, Happy Gilmore – er, Paige Spiranac.
With the 2021 NHL Playoffs officially underway, the Instagram golf sensation channeled Adam Sandler’s beloved golfer on the green, trying out his infamous slap shot-inspired swing.
“With hockey playoffs starting I had to break out the Happy Gilmore swing!” Spiranac captioned her Instagram video on Monday.
In the clip, Spiranac models a black mini dress and sneakers as she swings her driver to hit the ball. The 28-year-old’s fans then applauded her efforts.
“That’s pretty damn good, Paige! How many yards you figure??” one of Spiranac’s three million Instagram followers commented.
“I like your swing over Happy’s,” another replied.
In the 1996 sports comedy, Sandler stars as a hockey player-turned-golfer Happy Gilmore, who takes the golf community by storm, much to the dismay of Christopher McDonald’s Shooter McGavin.
Although Sandler has been the focus of recent viral moments – notably his basketball attire – “Happy Gilmore” became a trending topic at the 2021 Masters, with pro Will Zalatoris drawing comparisons to the character’s caddie.
“Have fun today young man. Mr. Gilmore is watching you and very proud,” Sandler tweeted in April to the 24-year-old, who finished second in this year’s tournament behind Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.
As for Steelers fanatic Spiranac, who recently spoke about her close encounters of the “creep” kind at the golf course, expect the “Playing A Round” podcast host to continue her playoff commentary on Twitter all tournament long.
