Paul Scholes says Man Utd have ‘laziest wingers’ around as legend scoffs at idea of Martial ‘putting in a shift’

PAUL SCHOLES has accused Manchester United's highly-paid wingers of being lazy.

The Red Devils have come under intense scrutiny following the sacking of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was given his walking papers last Sunday.

Solskjaer's former troops have been accused of showing no passion and desire to wear the shirt, which Scholes believes is epitomised by United's wide men.

Ahead of United's Champions League clash with Villarreal, he told BT Sport: "United have the laziest wingers.

The club legend then singled out France international Anthony Martial, asking: "Do you think Martial will put in a shift?”

Scholes isn't expecting to see any immediate improvements from his old side, who are under the temporary stewardship of his former team-mate Michael Carrick.

But the United legend believes Carrick and the rest of Solskajer's backroom staff should've also been given the boot.

He said: "You asked the question of whether they'll be any better tonight, but it's the same people running the team.

“It's the same people given massive responsibility to put the team out on the pitch, it's more Kieran McKenna, Michael Carrick, who have prepared the team.

“Ole gives them the responsibility to do that. Why that changes now, I don't know.

“Four weeks ago that Liverpool game, that was the time we knew. We knew Ole was going to go.

“Then, the people above had to prepare the next batch, the next manager, the next batch of staff.

“I'd be embarrassed to be on the staff now after what happened to Ole.

“Being on the staff and preparing the team for tonight, they all should have gone."

Scholes believes Carrick and Co. have let the players down as much as their former boss.

He added: “Ole trusted them each week to get the team prepared for games.

“They've let the club down, the players down, as much as Ole has."

SunSport understands former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is in the running to replace Solskjaer in the Old Trafford dugout.

United are reportedly confident of prising the Argentine from PSG's clutches with a £10million compensation package.
