PETER SCHMEICHEL has slammed Erik ten Hag's comment on Scott McTominay after he saved Manchester United against Brentford.
The Red Devils icon was left baffled at the Dutch boss who said he was still open to selling the Scotsman after nearly losing him this summer to West Ham.
Schmeichel, 59, claimed he was unsure about Ten Hag's approach to McTominay after his outstanding performance in Saturday's clash with the Bees.
The midfielder came off the bench to secure Man Utd a 2-1 victory in the dying minutes of the game with two late goals.
Just weeks ago it seemed the 26-year-old was on his way out of Old Trafford, the Hammers and Bayern Munich said to be interested in the Scottish international.
Ten Hag admitted he was keen to keep academy graduate McTominay after his game-winning display on the weekend, but was also open to selling him.

He said: "Every player has a price but he has a big value, sporting and also economic.
"I want to have a player like Scott McTominay in the squad. He is Manchester United in every faith.
"Every minute he will fight for the match. He is Manchester United in everything in his heart. When you are coming on and giving this to the team it tells a lot.”
United legend Schmeichel was confused as to why Ten Hag was willing to give up McTominay.

He responded to the midfielder's impact on United, saying: "He’s got the ability to do that. I don’t understand what coaches are doing.
"Scott McTominay was up for sale all summer and I don’t understand that.
"He’s a fantastic player, you need utility players. You need players that can play different positions, that can come from the bench and change the course of the game and he’s definitely one of them.
"You bring in players and you sit there with big question marks, why is that player there?"
McTominay's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain – he has less than two years left on his current contract with an option to extend for another term.
Meanwhile, he still ranks below both Casemiro and summer signing Sofyan Amrabat in Ten Hag's pecking order when it comes to holding midfielders.
