Premier League sack race – Everton boss Rafa Benitez now favourite as bookies slash odds after winless run

RAFA BENITEZ is favourite to be the next managerial casualty of the season.

That's according to the latest odds from bookmakers Sky Bet, who've shortened his price from 4/1 to 11/4 overnight.

Benitez signed a three-year deal to replace Carlo Ancelotti as manager in June.

And the Spaniard enjoyed a terrific start to the campaign despite spending a total of just £1.8million on new arrivals Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray and Salomon Rondon.

Plagued by injuries to key players, the 61-year-old still won five of his opening eight fixtures in all competitions.

But things have taken a troubling turn for Benitez in recent weeks.

The Toffees are winless in their last six Premier League fixtures, including a 5-2 thrashing to relegation-threatened Watford at Goodison Park.

Everton have taken just two points from the last 18 on offer.

Sky Bet odds

  • Rafael Benitez – 11/4
  • Ralph Hasenhuttl – 9/2
  • Brendan Rodgers – 6/1
  • Claudio Ranieri – 8/1
  • Marcelo Bielsa – 8/1
  • Bruno Lage – 16/1
  • Mikel Arteta – 16/1
  • Sean Dyche – 20/1
  • Eddie Howe – 25/1

And injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucoure and now Gray could see them struggle against Brentford this weekend.

After Sunday's loss to Manchester City, Benitez said: "We know that we have to go to January in a good position, then with players coming back it will be easier for us to compete against anyone.

"In the meantime, we have to try to stick together, be strong and then be sure we approach the games with the confidence that we can win and get points."

Southampton's Ralph Hasenhuttl is next in the market at 9/2 while previous favourites Brendan Rodgers has drifted to 6/1.

The Leicester managed had been available at 5/2 amid claims he'd been contacted by Manchester United to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Marcelo Bielsa and Claudio Ranieri follow at 8/1 with Arsenal's Mikel Arteta and Bruno Lage offered at 16s.
