Reason Sir Jim Ratcliffe's 25% Man Utd takeover is delayed revealed as he targets ex-Liverpool chief with first move | The Sun

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE'S investment into Manchester United has caused frustration for many waiting for the announcement.

Though a new possible date for the 25 per cent takeover has been revealed.

There had been suggestions a deal would be completed by now, but with no announcement by Wednesday the Thanksgiving holiday is likely the cause of the extended delay.

The New York Stock Exchange will reopen next week once the break is over.

After being shut yesterday the Exchange is only open for a half day today, with no substantial business set to take place.

A report from inews said there were “no issues of substance” in the Man Utd deal worth £1.3billion.

However, Ratcliffe is still looking at appointing a new face in the role.

And according to the Independent, one possible person is former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards.

Edwards, who is said to be "admired" by Ineos held the role of sporting director at the Reds between 2011 and 2022.

He had also previously spent time with Tottenham.

But it remains to be seen whether he would want to get back into football.

Other names earmarked for the role include Crystal Palace's Dougie Freedman and ex-Spurs chief Paul Mitchell.

While the exact structure under Ratcliffe remains to be seen, the Mail reports that whoever takes on the role will NOT have to run decisions by Glazers who will remain the majority owners of the club.

Man Utd are back in action on the pitch against Everton on Sunday.

However, they will be without the suspended Erik ten Hag and remain stretched thin due to a wave of injuries.

Although they were handed a major boost with key defenders Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez spotted in training.
