Rio Ferdinand reveals which failed Man Utd transfer left him ‘puking in my mouth’ | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the one failed transfer that makes him regularly “puke inside my mouth”.

The former England defender, 45, spent 12 years in defence for the Red Devils and won the lot under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He was part of one of United’s greatest-ever sides as he lifted the Premier League title six times, the Champions League and Fifa Club World Cup.

However, since they won the league in Fergie’s final campaign in charge in 2013, he and many of iconic names have watched from afar as the club slumped.

But he is convinced the arrival of one man last summer could have helped turn them back into potential title contenders once again.

That man is Harry Kane, who United had been linked with for a number of years.

However, the Three Lions skipper, 30, proved to be too costly for Erik ten Hag’s men as they opted for 20-year-old Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund instead.

He has scored 21 goals and produced seven assists in his first 16 appearances.

And after he scored his third hat-trick of the campaign recently against Borussia Dortmund, Ferdinand told his FIVE podcast: “His third hat-trick!

“Every time I see Harry Kane’s name come up with the match ball and a hat-trick, I puke inside my mouth.

“I’m thinking, why – why – did we not go and get him?”

United ended up forking out £72m on Hojlund to bolster their forward line.

He is their current top scorer this term with five in all competitions, but the ex-Atalanta ace is yet to find the net in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Kane scored against United in September as Bayern beat them 4-3 in the Champions League.

And he could return to haunt them again next month at Old Trafford when the two teams collide in the final group match.
