Templegate's Arc weekend day one tips and complete punting guide to Saturday at Longchamp | The Sun

TEMPLEGATE hops over the Channel to rinse the bookes in Paris.

Our man gives his verdicts on the big races from the first day of the Arc meeting.

Longchamp verdicts

12.23: HARBOUR WIND has won three of his four starts and can score for Dermot Weld.

He powered home in front of a decent field to win the Listed Vinnie Roe Stakes at Leopardstown last time.

This slightly longer trip should bring out even more improvement and he’s fine on good and slow ground.

Shembala has lots of staying power as she showed when scoring here last time. She looks ready for this hike in class.

Gallerist dug deep to land a Group 3 here latest to make it five wins on the spin. His upward curve isn’t over yet.

1.33: EMILY DICKINSON was a solid fourth in the Ascot Gold Cup and has continued to run well since.

She took the Curragh Cup with plenty left in the tank before stepping back to Group 1 level when second in the Goodwood Cup.

Ryan Moore asked her to make up a lot of ground there and they let the winner get too far ahead.

She can go very close ahead of Trueshan who got back to winning ways at Doncaster last time.

It wasn’t the greatest race but he has won this before in 2021 so warrants lots of respect.

2.58: ISLANDSINTHESTREAM was a good second in the Group 1 National Stakes at The Curragh last time and looks hard to beat.

He missed the break, which was a mark of his inexperience, before finishing strongly so stepping up to a mile should suit.

Hit It didn’t have a lot to beat at Saint-Cloud last time but did it nicely and can figure.

3.33: SEA SILK ROAD has been knocking on the door at this Group 1 level including when just two lengths off the pace here last time.

She goes on any ground and can make the frame at least.

Melo Melo finished just ahead of the tip latest and there won’t be a lot between them again.

Shamida deserves this hike in grade after scoring in a Curragh Group 3 latest and her staying power isn’t in question.

Mimikyu will enjoy this stiffer stamina test but has a few lengths to find for Frankie.

4.08: EMBESTO could be the answer to this tough contest.

He battled right to the line when dead-heating for the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. That was just his fourth run so there should be a lot more to come.

Poker Face travelled strongly when scoring at Deauville latest and looks the main danger. He likes the mile and has hat-trick chances.

Isaac Shelby would ideally get softer ground but he has run well at Glorious Goodwood and York before heading here.

4.34: EREVANN went close in the Group 1 Moulin over a mile here last time.

He was beaten less than a length when tackling this sort of trip earlier in the season and can improve for it.
