Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry posted a truly historic night in a Thursday victory against the Jaguars. His previous season-high mark in a 2018 game was 58 yards. His previous career-best for a single game was 131 yards in Week 6 of last season.
On Thursday, he scampered off for 238 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 carries. Here’s a look at Henry’s performance by the numbers.
– Henry may have been one of the most unexpected players to have a breakout performance like he did. He had previously gained 100 or more rushing yards just twice in his 43 career games.
Before Jerome Harrison ran for 286 yards in Week 15 of the 2009 season as a member of the Browns, his previous career-best was 121, which he had set earlier that season. In fact, Harrison’s career day accounted for 17 % of his 1,681 career rushing yards over eight seasons. And in the 1989 season, then-Rams receiver Willie “Flipper” Anderson had a career high of 112 receiving yards entering Week 12. Then, in a victory against the Saints, Anderson set a still-standing NFL record for most receiving yards in a game with 336 on 15 catches, adding one touchdown.
– Henry posted the fewest carries in a game in the Super Bowl era for any player who ran for 200 or more yards and four or more touchdowns. In fact, Henry needed just 13 rushes to surpass both marks.
