Tim Tebow is getting his second NFL chance

Well, it’s official – Tim Tebow is back in the NFL.

The 33-year-old quarterback-turned-minor league baseball player-turned-SEC football analyst-turned-tight end signed his one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday morning, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tebow will join the team Thursday to participate in their offseason program, according to the report. Despite having never played the tight end position professionally, the former Jet will have a chance to compete for a roster spot with new head coach Urban Meyer.

The move was reported weeks ago, and has been met with mostly criticism. Former players and talking heads have decried the move as a questionable decision by Meyer, who has never coached in the NFL and has a history with Tebow dating back to when he coached the the Heisman-winning quarterback at Florida.

Greg McElroy, who was on the Jets’ roster with Tebow in 2012, said on SiriusXM that the Jets “tried switching him to tight end, and he wasn’t good.”

Even the Jaguars brass was reported to be out on the idea, as there were reportedly “coaches on that staff that don’t want to see it happen,” according to ESPN. Apparently, their say wasn’t enough, as Tebow is now officially on the roster.
