Woodward turned his hand to coaching after retiring from playing professionally, working for Henley, London Irish and Bath.

He was appointed England's head coach in 1997, taking over from Jack Rowell, and went on to win three Six Nations titles as well as the 2003 World Cup.

After winning the 2023 World Cup, Woodward was knighted in the 2004 New Year's Honours.

Clive was named the coach of the British and Irish Lions in 2005, but his management style and choices were questioned throughout the tour of South Africa, which the tourists lost 3-0.

In 2004 Woodward released an autobiography titled 'Winning!'.

After leaving rugby, he took on the role of performance director at Southampton Football Club, and then went on to be director of football with the Cherries, before leaving the club in 2006.

Later the same year, after he was reportedly passed over for the post of the Rugby Union's director of elite rugby, he was appointed as the director of elite performance for the British Olympic Association.

In his current position on the International Olympic Committee's Entourage Commission, which he has held since 2012, Woodward continues to support aspiring coaches and athletes through a tailor made scholarship programme.
