BBC news presenter mistaken for worker while reporting
The BBC suffered a blunder this morning after one of its reporters had to reassure a factory worker that he didn’t actually work there – while live on air. Broadcasting from a factory in Birmingham, the Beeb reporter was donning a high-vis vest while reporting about UK inflation.
With his clothing seemingly identical to many others wheeling around carts nearby, an innocent labourer strolled over to talk.
The hilarious incident prompted a quick response of “I don’t work here, I’m just doing the news”, followed by a bemused chuckle from the reporter. The ten second clip has racked up thousands of likes already.
While the journalist explained to the camera that the rate of rising prices has “slowed down again”, a man in a blue jacket can be seen in the background gazing around the workplace, before slowly approaching the hack.

Despite being mid-sentence talking about “the typical basket of goods and services”, the blue-jacketed man was undeterred and seemed to ask the reporter a question. Sadly, his voice wasn’t audible, but the bizarre incident brought about a laugh.
The clip drew in some hilarious replies on X/Twitter, with many jokingly implying that the reporter was indeed a factory worker, while one pointed out the absurdity of a reporter wearing the same clothes while broadcasting live: “The hi-viz vest is a cunning disguise though.”

Another made an attempt at what the man was trying to say, with one suggestion being “maybe he wanted his autograph?”. A separate person wrote, “he has one of those faces”, while a fourth simply said “magnificent”.
It wasn’t the first time BBC News have made a hilarious blunder live on air. Earlier this year, while reporting about the donations of a wealthy businessman to the Conservative Party, they captioned the story as “Tory doner revelations”, rather than the correctly spelled “donor”. Fans joked that the businessman didn’t actually look like a piece of meat.
