BIFA 2018 sees wins for Olivia Colman and her film The Favourite

With awards season in full swing it is now time for the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) to honour the latest films of indie cinema for 2018, with a whole host of cinematic offerings up for gongs.

This year, however, belongs to historical farce The Favourite, centred on the bitter rivalry for the affection of Queen Anne of Great Britain (Olivia Colman) between Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz) and Abigail Hill (Emma Stone).

The night saw a win for Colman for Best Actress, with Weisz beating Stone for the gong for Best Supporting Actress.

The film also picked up Best British Independent Film, Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos and Best Screenplay.

Additionally, the fabulous Dame Judi Dench took home the Richard Harris Award to celebrate her illustrious career that spans six decades.

Former Peaky Blinder star Joe Cole also took home the award for Best Actor, seeing off the likes of Joaquin Phoenix and Steve Coogan.
