Big Brother hosts AJ and Will ‘not trying to mimic or imitate’ previous hosts

Big Brother UK sneak peek

Big Brother has proven a hit since its return on Sunday night with new hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best, and the pair have promised to put their own mark on the show.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media in advance of the relaunch on its new home of ITV2 they promised not to copy the show’s previous hosts such as Davina McCall and Emma Willis.

“It’s just so lovely to have all of the previous presenters actually just be so supportive of me and Will,” AJ enthused.

“It’s really good that we got their seal of approval. It’s a show that’s obviously been so important to Davina to Emma Willis to Brian Dowling. It’s been important to so many presenters.

I definitely want to be myself. Will definitely wants to be himself…we’re not trying to mimic or imitate any previous presenters that have been before. But, it’s really great to have a lot of goodwill and a lot of positive energy on your side for sure.

While they have been the picture of confidence on screen so far, Will did confess to some trepidation about taking on such an iconic role.

“I think doing any show like this there’s going to be nerves attached…this pressure attached,” he admitted.

“But…I’m just excited that Big Brother’s coming back and I’ve been a massive fan of the show over the years.

“So for the show to come back…and then to actually get a chance to work on it immediately overrides anything else. That is just incredibly exciting.

“But then…to be doing it with AJ, which definitely kind of curbs a lot of those sorts of nerves because…when you’re working with a mate, somebody you really get on with, somebody who you find absolutely hilarious anyway it very quickly stops being worky (sic) or scary and just becomes fun,” he gushed.

For her part, AJ echoes this sentiment: “I’m like, you know the pressure is on… it’s a big show. It’s like we all grew up watching it,” she confessed.

“But there’s a whole new audience that we want to bring along for the ride as well.

“And also, you know, it’s had previous presenters who both Will and I love, adore respect and we want to do everyone proud,” she continued.

So yeah, whilst the pressure is on and that can be very daunting it is actually countered by the fact that I’m presenting alongside Will. He’s a really good mate of mine. He’s really good at his job, and I’ll be in safe hands with him and vice versa.”

Big Brother is on ITV2 at 9pm nightly and available to stream on ITVX.
