The hit ABC TV show Big Sky just finished up its first season, and it ended on a big cliffhanger. Fans are now left wondering what’s next for Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) and Cassie (Kylie Bunbury).
The show’s executive producer recently addressed the two stars’ futures now that season 1 is over, and, as expected, nothing is certain.

ABC’s hit TV show ‘Big Sky’ ended season 1 on a major cliffhanger
What’s a season finale without a cliffhanger, right? Big Sky ended its first season on a major one.
The episode started with things somewhat wrapping up at the Kleinsasser ranch, as Sheriff Wagy (Sebastian Roché) got arrested, and Horst (Ted Levine) choked on his pills until he died. This left Cheyenne (Britt Robertson) with what she wanted all along: power over the ranch.
The bigger problem, though, is Ronald (Brian Geraghty). It looked as if he was finally going to go to prison, but after he took Cassie, Jenny, and Marshal Lindor (Omar Metwally) to one of his victim’s bodies, some mysterious men flipped the car with him, Cassie, and Lindor in it. This caused a big wreck also involving Jenny and Sheriff Tubb (Patrick Gallagher), and led to Ronald getting away.
He didn’t get out of custody without anyone getting hurt, though. One man who helped him escape ultimately shot Jenny, who had been trying to prevent his getaway.
Cassie was then trying to help her friend stay alive while Ronald and Scarlet (Anja Savcic) were killing the man driving their getaway car. They chose to murder him together after learning the bigger plan involved abandoning Scarlet’s daughter.
The episode ultimately ended with Jenny going into an ambulance and Cassie grabbing a machine gun, jumping into a police car, and chasing after Ronald.
So, is Jenny about to die? Is Cassie going to get hurt by confronting Ronald? Will she get in trouble for taking a police car?
The future is unclear.
What’s in store for Jenny and Cassie?
Things don’t look too great for Jenny and Cassie. We know that the show’s writers aren’t afraid to kill off major characters, either, as we have already said goodbye to Cody (Ryan Phillippe) and Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch).
So, what’s next for Big Sky’s two main stars?
“It’s pretty bad for (Jenny),” Big Sky executive producer Elwood Reid said to Entertainment Weekly. “And it’s also pretty bad for Cassie because she’s chasing after some pretty bad guys, including Ronald. We don’t know who this mysterious group is that broke him out. Both women are in jeopardy.”
Reid ultimately reminded us that, as we’ve learned from this show so far, no one is safe.
“Nobody’s off limits; everybody’s fair game,” Reid said, per Entertainment Weekly. “We’re going to go that way right to the end of the show — ride or die with that ethos.”
However, Reid also hinted at a future storyline where both women assess their lives moving forward.
“Cassie was nearly strangled to death by Ronald in the car, and she escaped,” he added, per Entertainment Weekly. “Now we have Jenny shot. It’s going to cause both women to reassess where they’re at with their lives and where they’re at with their careers.”
He also said that, heading into season 2, he promises that the characters will finally take a breath and that Cassie and Jenny will get to process what everything means “for their relationship together going forward.”
When will ‘Big Sky’ Season 2 air?
We know that there is definitely going to be a Big Sky Season 2, as ABC renewed the hit TV show for a second season earlier this month, according to Decider.
So, when will we finally see what’s next for the two lead stars, as well as Ronald and the other characters? There’s no premiere date, but ABC announced its 2021 fall schedule on May 18, and Big Sky was on its list. The show, though, will be moving from Tuesdays to Thursdays.
You can stream Big Sky on Hulu.
