WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Bodies on Netflix
The final scene of Bodies has left viewers scratching their heads after it looked like the four detectives across time had broken the loop and changed the course of history.
However, the final scene of the show – which has garnered comparisons to Dark – featured detective Shahara Hasan (played by Amaka Okafor) in 2023 London heading to her father’s birthday party.
Along the way, she was chatting to her taxi driver who was revealed to be none other than 2053’s detective Iris Maplewood (Shira Haas).
Maplewood was listening to Hasan saying how she was always worried about how the city was on the brink of boiling over.
The detective from the future didn’t seem to have aged and looked exactly the same as she had in 2053.
What was Iris Maplewood in 2023?
Many perplexed Bodies viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to point out Maplewood’s addition in the final scene.
User @KPRJGhostEelam said: “Why is DC Maplewood back in 2023 as Hasan’s taxi driver in the end when the loop has been stopped. #bodies @SiSpencer.”
While @_MoonTribe said: “It would’ve made more sense if Defoe was the one in that cab since Maplewood is supposed to be a child in 2023 #Bodies #bodiesnetflix.”
A third @RealiTV_1001 posted: “How would Shara and Maplewood cross paths in the cab?
“Maplewood is from 2053 so she’d be 3 years old in 2023. I’m confused why shes driving a cab. #Bodies #bodiesnetflix [sic].”

Another called @chrisjantzen_ commented: “Someone at @NetflixUK is going to have to explain to me, how the hell, adult Maplewood was in that cab at the end when she’s supposed to be a child in 2023 #Bodies.”
Finally, @thebek5ter said: “At the end of #Bodies there was a KYAL tower, what was that all about?? Do we find out how Iris got to 2023?? #bodiesnetflix.”
According to Bodies’ showrunner Paul Tomalin in an interview with Cosmopolitan: “The characters were brought to an end.
“But that being said, if it’s a ridiculous hit and people are storming Netflix [for more], we left that ellipsis just in case, with a very exciting idea that does justice to the set up and develops it further.”

Tomalin’s words suggest the writers kept the door slightly ajar for a possible season two depending on the show’s success.
On top of the implication something untoward was about to take place hence Maplewood’s presence in 2023, there was another little cliffhanger.
A KYAL (Know You Are Loved) sign was seen emblazoned on the side of a London skyscraper, which again signalled there could be more.
Given Bodies only just dropped last week and was billed as a limited series, it’s unclear if there could be a second season.
