Casualty trailer hints at Zoe Hanna’s return
The BBC has confirmed that Casualty will return with the remainder of its 38th series later this year.
This news comes following the shock cancellation of the long-running BBC daytime drama Doctors, which was axed yesterday by the channel.
A spokesperson for Casualty revealed to What To Watch: “Casualty continues and is not affected. We’ll be back at the end of the year!”
Given that Holby City was given the chop and now Doctors, it’s probably not surprising that fans of the BBC medical dramas were concerned that Casualty could be the next one to face the axe.
However, there are no plans for the Saturday night show to go anywhere soon.

Fans of Casualty will be aware that, despite the 38th series of the show starting in August, it is currently on a temporary but very much planned break, which is why it hasn’t been on screens over the past month.
It is not yet known when the medical drama will return but the official BBC Casualty Twitter account did explain on September 23 that Casualty will return.
It said: “Casualty is on a break and will be back on your screens later this year.” So, it seems to be safe from any possible cancellation, at least this year anyway.

Whenever it returns, there are plenty of dramatic storylines that are still ongoing.
They include Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) being under investigation after her nephew Teddy (Milo Clarke) reported her for travelling to Switzerland to accompany her ex-husband Gethin West (Robert Pugh) in his decision to pursue assisted suicide.
Another storyline is about Donna Jackson (Jaye Jacobs) being sentenced to 12 months – half in prison, half on licence – for causing a fatal car accident after falling asleep at the wheel.
What will her children do without her? Fans will need to tune in to see exactly what happens next.
Doctors was not so lucky. The daytime drama, which first started airing in 2000, will come to a conclusion on BBC One next year, with the final set of episodes airing in December 2024.
In a statement, the BBC explained: “We have taken the very difficult decision to bring daytime drama Doctors to an end after 23 years. With super inflation in drama production, the cost of the programme has increased significantly, and further investment is also now required to refurbish the site where the show is made, or to relocate it to another home.”
They added that because of the “flat licence fee,” this has meant that the BBC has faced various funding challenges and “have to make tough choices to deliver greater value to audiences.”
Casualty airs on Saturday evenings on BBC One.
