Cry Macho: Clint Eastwood stars in trailer for western drama
Clint Eastwood has had an incredible Hollywood career spanning 70 years. Aside from his iconic roles like The Man With No Name and Dirty Harry, in more recent decades he’s proven himself as a talented director too with the likes of Unforgiven and Gran Torino. The star, who turns 93 next month, starred in and helmed Cry Macho two years ago but has been pretty quiet since. The Neo-Western received mixed reviews and was a box office flop at Warner Bros. And when new President and CEO David Zaslav took over the studio following its merger with Discovery he “grilled” executives over why the project was green-lit at all.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Hollywood suits defended the decision to produce Cry Macho because of Eastwood’s history with the studio, but Zaslav bluntly responded, “We don’t owe anyone any favours”. Nevertheless, the latest report is that Warner Bros is now going ahead with what is being called the legend’s “final film” in-house.
Discussing Film’s sources say the quadruple Oscar winner’s new movie is a thriller called Juror #2. The plot follows the titular character on a murder trial when he realises that he may have caused the victim’s death himself. As a result, the lead grapples with whether to save himself with his influence over the rest of the jury or turn himself in.
Insiders claim Eastwood wants to direct Juror #2, but it’s unclear if he’s dead set on this definitely being his final film before retiring. Casting hasn’t begun but a source claims the almost 93-year-old is eyeing a young Hollywood star as the lead; an actor who has a big movie coming out in the next few months.
Juror #2 will be the movie legend’s 40th directorial turn and a release date is yet to be announced.
