Coronation Street boss, Iain MacLeod, has revealed a "huge" storyline for the ITV soap's teen cast.
The upcoming plot is hoping to "shock a bit" and "provoke awkward conversations in front of the TV".
Iain added that Coronation Street is working with charities to make sure they get the "detail right" and will showcase the "superstar" young actors the ITV soap has.
He said: "There’s a huge story we can tell with them right at the heart of it, very relatable and very teenage. We’re hoping it’s the kind of story that shocks a bit and provokes awkward conversations in front of the TV.
"There is a cross generational appeal of Corrie, as younger people might sit and watch it with their nana.
"This story I think will encourage conversations you’d never normally have in that cross generational way because its tricky tonal territory. I’m pleased with it.
"We’re working with charities to make sure we get the detail right and fundamentally its just about those brilliant young actors being the superstars they are, then reaching out into the wider street through people who are connected to them."
Soap fans will recall that the ITV soap has previously used its teenager cast for huge storylines and in 2021 the young stars were involved in the hard-hitting hate crime storyline, where Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin were brutally attacked with the latter tragically dying.
Iain added that the new storyline will have a similar impact as the previous plot, saying: "The Seb and Nina story was ostensibly about an assault on a teenager that drew in Roy, Abi, a whole cross generational group of characters. Those are our best stories, the ones that don’t live in one demographic corner.
"This is exactly one of those. Huge stuff for those directly involved then parents/loved ones/families/extended friendship groups and ripples spread out across the whole show."
