Coronation Street bosses sign up Britains Got Talent star as Carlas nephew

Former Britain’s Got Talent star Jack Carroll has joined the cast of Coronation Street in a surprise career U-turn.

The actor and comedian first rose to fame when he was just 14 on the seventh series of ITV show back in 2014. His stand-up comedy routine was an immediate hit with the judges and viewers and he went on to soared to the finals before he was pipped to the post by the pop group Collabro.

But that didn’t slow the star down, with the teen soon going on to performing in sell-out gigs including Saturday Night at the London Palladium, Jason Manford’s Funny Old Week and Live at the Apollo. He even had a nationwide tour where he entertained thousands of people on his month-long tour.

The Bradford-born TV star is also an accomplished actor, going on to star in a number of TV shows following his time on the ITV talent competition. He has appeared in Ministry of Curious Stuff on CBBC, Trollied, Doctors and in 2019 he played the role of Pete in the feature-length film, Eaten By Lions.

Most recently, the performer has written and starred in his own comedy short, titled Mobility. But the northern lad will be ditching the stage for the ITV cobbles where he will portray the role of Bobby Donovan, the son of Carla’s brother Rob Donovan.

Rob is currently serving life in prison for the murder of Tina McIntyre and was unaware he had a son until recently but hadn’t managed to let Carla know. In an unexpected turn of events, Bobby turns up out of the blue just after Christmas.

Once he learnt about the identity of his father, he decided to turn up on her doorstep and make himself at home. It’s fair to say Bobby is a livewire chip off the old block with quite the gift of the gab and quite the eye for the ladies.

It doesn’t take long before Bobby runs rings around his Aunty Carla and it soon becomes evident that he wants to stay in Weatherfield for good. Speaking about his new role, Jack promised viewers they could expect a lot of laughs from his cheeky character on the ITV cobbles.

He said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be playing a part in the history of the cultural institution that is Coronation Street. I hope Bobby brings viewers a lot of laughs in the vein of some of the street’s classic comedy characters.”

It comes after fans were left heartbroken when Carla announced she would be leaving the ITV soap after her husband killed cobbles killer Stephen Reid. The businesswoman has had a rather dramatic past couple of months.

Not only has she learned baddie Stephen drugged her with LSD in a bid to take her business, Underworld, but her beau Peter Barlow has also been arrested for his murder. As fans will recall, the serial killer has also tricked factory worker Michael into helping him steal £250,000 from the business account.

However, the Canadian killer’s terror came to an end last week after Peter ran him over moments before he escaped a getaway car. Now, the future of the factory is up in the air.

Carla has assured everyone she will do what it takes to save Underworld. So much so that she is planning to leave the cobbles.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 from 8pm or catch-up on ITVX.
