Corrie’s Steve McDonald and EastEnders Ian Beale ‘to face off in I’m A Celeb’

Fan favourite and Coronation Street star Simon Gregson will reportedly go head-to-head with his soap rival, EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt as the pair both sign up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Simon, 47, is well known for playing Corrie’s Steve McDonald for 32 years and has been rumoured to be the latest big-name signing.

The news comes after it was also alleged that EastEnders veteran Adam, 53, who plays the long-running character of Ian Beale, would also be joining the line-up.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “To have both Simon and Adam on this series is a real coup. Bosses think they’ll provide some real comedy moments together.”

The insider added: “Bosses know Corrie fans will get right behind him. Everyone knows Simon as Steve but now they’ll get to see a completely different side of him for the first time.

“Simon has previously shunned all reality shows and he has turned down I’m A Celeb a number of times before. But now his children are older, Simon started to think the timing was right.

“And after the show was moved from Australia to Wales it made it easier for him to commit.”

Simon follows in the footsteps of his on-screen mum Liz, played by Beverley Callard, who appeared on the last series of the hit show.

He previously teased his co-star when she signed up, joking that she was faking her veganism to get out of trials.

He said last year: “Rebecca, her daughter, is vegan and I’m sure Bev has done it for all the right reasons, health and to save the planet . . . if you believe that, I’m a mango.

“I’m pretty sure it’s because she doesn’t have to put a willy in her mouth.”

Simon and Adam will reportedly be joined at Gwrych Castle by Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley, 65, who is thought to have signed a £200,000 deal to appear on the show.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips, 78, has also been tipped to be part of this year’s line up.
