This Morning viewers will be graced with the presence of Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond over the October half-term as they take over from Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for the week. Ahead of their hosting stint, Dermot and Alison expressed their love for one another and the odd friendship they hold.
Speaking to ITV about whether they have any This Morning getting ready rituals, Dermot explained: “I’ve got a show tune.
“On the way in, I work out what song I’m going to walk into the makeup room with, I even get it to the point of the song where it’s going to be a good chorus before I step into the room.
“I did No More Tears by Barbra Streisand and Donna Air recently, and Alison and I did a little dance before catching up on the week.
“I have to do something that makes her happy, otherwise she has a go at me if it’s not funny enough!” he explained.
Alison replied to Dermot’s admission: “Yeah, I love that I have to be honest. It brings me joy. I like that ritual, but when it comes to things like breakfast, I switch it up a bit.
“Some days I have poached eggs and avocado, other days I might just have a protein shake,” she explained.
Speaking on whether they were looking forward to a week of presenting the hit ITV daytime show, Alison expressed: “The last time we did it, I really enjoyed the intenseness of it.
“Seeing him every single day [laughs]. I’m hoping to have a couple of meals out, some lunches with him as well.”
Agreeing with her, Dermot said: “Intenseness is the perfect word to describe it, but it’s a pleasant intenseness.
“I like coming in every day for a week and getting into the groove and swing of it – and of course, seeing Alison every day.”
Dermot spoke about his 15-month old son is his alarm clock at home when asked whether they’ll get tired doing five shows in a row.
Alison exclaimed: “No, I’m buzzing for it,” to which Dermot reminded her: “Because you get to take random things home like that salt and vinegar spray a few weeks ago.”
Speaking on their highlights of working together so far, Dermot said: “Getting to know her and getting to trust her.
“Our friendship is definitely the highlight, it’s lovely how it’s been nurtured over time. I’ve found a sister and a friend, which is nice. Something has really clicked in the last four months.”
The pair’s relationship never fails to translate on screen, as just last week Dermot jokingly snapped at Alison for interrupting his interview with Gok Wan.
The pair were gearing up to chat with fashion guru Gok Wan, who is promoting his latest TV show called Bling and pawnbroker Mr Freeze.
But as Dermot got ready to introduced Mr Freeze as producers had instructed, Alison went off-script and rushed straight into the interview with Gok, exclaiming: “So it’s called Bling.”
A normally calm and collected Dermot was thrown off his guard and promptly cut her off and said: “Hand on a minute, I haven’t introduced Mr Freeze! Hold your horses!”
Alison and Dermot will present This Morning daily between October 18th-22nd at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
