Pixar's long-awaited Incredibles sequel also helped Disney's coffers, becoming the second highest-grossing animated film of all time with $1.24 billion USD ($1.72 billion AUD) in ticket sales.
Other films released by Disney this year included Ant-Man and The Wasp, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Christopher Robin and Ralph Breaks the Internet.
But if you thought Disney was going to rest easy now, think again. In fact, the year hasn't even finished for the film studio – they're still due to release Mary Poppins Returns on December 19.
The highly-anticipated sequel to the 20th century classic is expected to bring Disney close to – or beyond – the $3 billion USD ($4.17 billion) domestic record they themselves set in 2016.
Next year is also expected to keep Disney's accountants on their toes, with a Lion King remake on the cards, starring the likes of Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Donald Glover.
Other big-name titles slated for a 2019 release include Toy Story 4, a sequel to Frozen and remakes of animated classics Dumbo and Aladdin.
