The return of the merciless cyborgs will mark the lifting of a ban on old monsters by the cult drama's new showrunner Chris Chibnall.
The Mirror report that the return of the Daleks, who will no longer be bronze, is expected to be revealed in a trailer after the Doctor Who finale on Sunday.
Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord will battle the metal-clad menaces in an hour-long special on New Year's Day, breaking a long absence from the show.
Viewers have been without the baddies – and their unlikely catchphrase "Ex-ter-min-ate!" – ever since 2015's episode The Witch's Familiar.
Peter Capaldi was the Doctor then, trying to rescue Clara from his old foes and overseeing the destruction of the Dalek city in the process.
Before the current series launched, Doctor Who boss Chris said he would showcase only new baddies, insisting: “There are no old monsters – OK?”
The New Year’s Day special, which is the only Doctor Who fans will get to see in 2019, will also star Call the Midwife’s Charlotte Richie.
Another full series is not likely to air until early 2020.
The Daleks, created by Who legend Terry Nation, first appeared in 1963, during the tenure of the first Doctor, played by William Hartnell.
