Emmerdale spoiler sees Priya ‘heartbroken’ as she sees her scars for the first time

It's an emotional week next week for Priya Sharma (played by Fiona Wade) on Emmerdale as she lays eyes on her back for the first time since the maize maze fire. Feeling as though she must finally face her future, Priya finally looks at the scars left by the blaze.

Actress Fiona opened up about what it was like to film the "heartbreaking" scenes, explaining: "It’s a really sad moment. It took two hours in make-up to do the scars, but I didn’t look at them before I went on set as I wanted to get the reaction.

"For Priya – and me, actually – it’s incredibly hard and heartbreaking as what she sees is just not her body. She doesn’t know who she is any more."

Priya begins to feel pressure when Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) turns up to Rishi Sharma's (Bhasker Patel) pre-Christmas do looking glam from head to toe.

Safe to say, Priya isn't looking forward to the big party.

"It’s her biggest nightmare. There’s nothing she wants less than to have everyone looking forward to Christmas, laughing and joking. She feels incredibly isolated and she’s shutting everyone out," Fiona said.

Ashamed of her joggers, Priya asks Leyla to help her find something to wear but her anxieties about her body are made worse as she rifles through her wardrobe.

She then explains to Leyla that she's yet to look at her back. Leyla kindly encourages her friend to face her fears and the pair look at Priya's back together.

They're stunned into silence when they see the scars and Priya stands quietly as she takes in her reflection.

Despite being in a lot of pain – both emotional and physical – Priya manages to get dressed for the party with Leyla's help.

"More than anything, she does it for Amba. She’s spent weeks in hospital gowns and jogging bottoms, so she wants her daughter to see her looking the way she remembers her.

"She puts on some make-up on and tries to feel a bit like herself again. I don’t think she does. But she is able to put on a bit of a show for her daughter."

However, it's not long before Priya's old troubles resurface. Although she appears to be making a good recovery, her anxieties about food begin to come flooding back.

"She’s not able to do much exercise, yet she is still having to eat more because her body needs to heal. I think before she knows it those issues are taking over."

Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
