First look as EastEnders' Kim Medcalf returns to filming

The actress will again take on the role of Sam Mitchell for the first time in 17 years. She was pictured outside the London set having finished a day of filming.

Explained: How long has Neighbours been running?

The hit Aussie soap, which started in March 1985, will come to an emotional end in August — three years short of its 40th anniversary. In the UK, Neighbours was first shown on BBC1 in 1986.

Bosses at Channel 5 have spent weeks in talks with producers at Fremantle Australia to try to find a way to keep the much-loved soap on air — but failed to strike a deal.

Although Neighbours is also shown in Australia, Channel 5 foots most of the production bill.

From a Channel 5 spokesperson: “Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.

"It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series. We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.

"We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”

EastEnders: Police believe Gray Atkins' lies (continued…)

The officer interrupted an increasingly irritate Whitney Dean after he questioned Gray Atkins over Chantelle's murder.

Gray's former nanny went to the police to report Gray for murdering his first wife -but as he appeared after questioning the killer, he seemed to have been taken in by his lies.

Telling Whitney, the detective said: “Whatever vendetta you’ve got against Gray Atkins… He told me someone kicked off at his wedding and the stress sent her into early labour – it didn’t take me long to put two and two together.”

He went on to insist that Chelsea hadn’t raised any issues so there was nothing he could do.

Whitney blasted him: “And neither did Chantelle. That is exactly what happened with me and Leo. I told you he was stalking me and everything and look what happened there. Why don’t you ever just believe women?”

Ignoring what Whitney said, the policeman told her: “Look you need to stop this obsession, otherwise you’re going to find yourself in serious trouble.”
