Emmerdale star Amy Nuttall left devastated as her mum dies saying tragedy is 'the biggest shock' | The Sun

AMY Nuttall has been left devastated after the shock death of her mother.

The Emmerdale star, 41, took to Instagram to share the sad news with fans.

Sharing a sweet photo of them together, Amy wrote: "My heart is beating loudly whilst I write this.

"Yesterday I said goodbye to my beautiful dear mummy. She was diagnosed in July with a glioblastoma (grade 4). To say it was the biggest shock would be an understatement."

Amy, who played Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale, continued: "Together with my wonderful family, we helped care for her to the end where she died in my arms as I lay beside her on 30/10/23 at 5.05pm.

"She humbled us all with how she handled this cruel diagnosis… never complaining, always smiling and bringing her daft humour to the fore every day."

Amy joined Emmerdale as Chloe in 2000 and played the character until 2005.

After leaving the show, she went on to appear in dramas Hotel Babylon and Moving On before landing the role of Ethel Parks in Downton Abbey.

Amy has also had roles in The Musketeers, Death In Paradise, and Liar.

Earlier this year The Sun told how Amy had kicked her Broadchurch star husband Andrew Buchan out of their family home — for the second time.

The couple had initially attempted to work on their 11-year marriage after it was revealed Andrew, 44, had ditched her for Leila Farzad, his co-star in BBC crime thriller Better.

Friends at the time said the actor – who shares two children with Amy – failed to stick to marriage “rules” drawn up by his wife and add the relationship looks over for good.

A source said: “It took a lot for Amy to give the marriage another chance but she thought it was worth one final roll of the dice.

“There is no suggestion he has cheated again, but as far as she is concerned this is it.

“She is obviously gutted but also accepts that their time together has come to an end.”
