Emmerdale star returns to TV two years after ITV soap departure

Emmerdale: Robert Sugden says emotional goodbye to Aaron

Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley is returning to his first television role in over two years.

The 38-year old, who previously starred in the ITV soap Emmerdale from 2014 until 2019, is set to appear in the acclaimed series All Creatures Great And Small.

Ryan’s last television appearance was over two years ago in the BBC medical drama Silent Witness.

Emmerdale fans will remember Ryan’s character getting involved in one of the most iconic soap romances ever.

Joining the soap in 2014, Robert fell for Aaron (Danny Miller) and the pair eventually tied the knot in 2018.

However, things went wrong for the couple after Robert was arrested and sentenced to prison for 14 years for his involvement in Lee Posner’s death.

Danny Miller’s character briefly returned last autumn for the show’s 50th anniversary, but there wasn’t to be a reunion for the former lovers.

However, Danny recently addressed the possibility of ‘Robron’ staging a comeback.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “I kind of imagined there’d be some crazy action thing just to really step outside – that it would be some action-packed thing where maybe Aaron could turn up and kidnap Robert out of prison.

“It was just stupid talk, I was actually telling Ryan about it!

“But no, it would’ve been really nice to have him back but it’s near impossible.”

Ryan is set to play the role of Sid Crantree in Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
