Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 Teaser Reveals “The Dead Are Already Here”

Tonight’s Game of Thrones saw the army of the living make their final preparations before facing off with the dead: Jaime reunited with everyone he’s ever had a conversation with over seven seasons, Sansa and Daenerys tried (and failed) to make nice, and Arya and Gendry(!!!) had sex. In the episode’s closing moments, the Night King made an ominous appearance on the horizon, marking the beginning of the Battle of Winterfell.

Unfortunately, the teaser for next week’s episode shows very little of what’s to come. Sansa’s voiceover declares, “The most heroic thing we can do now is look the truth in the face,” as the camera pans across the waiting armies at Winterfell, before landing on a shot of Grey Worm looking stoic:

Several quick flashes show Dany and Jon looking out over the armies, Sam facing something with concern, and Sansa and Arya looking out across the battlefield, before Jon’s voiceover says, “The Night King is coming.” (Could he mean for Bran, waiting at the weirwood with Theon?)

There are more shots: Arya running, a dragon howling, Theon shooting a flaming arrow, and Jon unsheathing his sword, before a cut to Daenerys telling Jon, “The dead are already here.” Could this be a nod to the theory that the Night King will reanimate the corpses in the Winterfell crypts?

Finally, Brienne screams, “Stand your ground,” as the teaser cuts to black.

However little we saw tonight, we do know next week’s episode will be epic; its run time clocks in at a whopping one hour 22 minutes—the longest of Season 8.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
